the challenge
When the artistic direction team from the Vancouver Improv Fest reached out to me to refresh their visual identity for their 2024 edition, I knew this was the perfect project for vibrant colours and playful character design. I was fortunate to collaborate with Natty Boonmasiri, whose whimsical approach helped bring the wild energy of improv comedy to an effective design system.
the strategy
Natty and I started by re-designing the existing VIF characters that represent Vancouver: a whale, mountains, a science museum, and a pine tree. We were inspired by the collaborative nature of improv and created a fun and dynamic illustration system.
