I loved collaborating on this limited edition tee for Los Angeles Pride with Salvies Who Lunch, an LA-based non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting Salvadoran and Central American culture.
I was beaming with pride and tears in my eyes seeing the SWL crew marching during LA Pride. I am especially honoured to have partnered with an LA-based organization that cares about protecting Latinx communities and honouring our resistance against cruelty and fear. About half my extended family lives in LA, and I have always felt so much admiration for the Latinx and CentAm communities there.

The design we chose to bring to a final stage, inspired by marching with the San Salvador Pride March in 2018
I designed this shirt inspired by an experience I had at the San Salvador Marcha del Orgullo in 2018. The march went down Paseo General Escalón, one of the busiest main streets in San Salvador. The mid-day tropical heat was intense: another sweaty day in Sivar! I was marching with a friend who had recently hurt her ankle, and at one point, she needed to rest. We were able to hitch a ride on a bus that was moving with the march and was available for performers who needed a break from the sun. My friend and I sat in the bus for a bit, waving from the windows and blasting music – boom, you’re on a float!!!
All proceeds of the tee sales support SWL’s efforts to fundraise for inclusive LGBTQ+ programming such as the LA Pride Parade and the Jotería event.
